ICSSR – SRC Guidelines for Study Grant

 

The following are the guidelines for the scrutiny of applications and award of grant under the Study Grant scheme by the Study Grant Committee of ICSSR, Southern Regional Centre:

1. Objectives

1.1. The primary objective of the Study Grant Scheme is to provide financial assistance to the Ph.D. Research Scholars from different disciplines of Social Sciences and interdisciplinary social science areas for visiting libraries/institutions for their research work.

2. Eligibility

2.1. An applicant is an individual Ph.D. Research Scholar in social sciences applying through his/her Institution from the southern region.

2.2. The applicant gets the grant twice during the tenure of his/her Ph.D. after successful completion of Pre-Ph.D. examination/Course work and before the completion of 3 years of Ph.D. period.

2.3. The Ph.D. Student who are not availing any fellowship are eligible to apply.

3.  Notification

3.1. The applications shall be submitted all through the year against the rolling notification in our website in online format. The Committee meeting will be held on quarterly basis.

4. Requirements for Submission of Application

4.1. The applicant needs to fill the Application form for visiting libraries in India with regard to their Ph.D. Research work. The Application Form is given in the last page of the guidelines. The Forwarding Letter must be rooted through the Head of the Department/Institution. Only applications completed in all respects shall be considered.

4.2. The applicant needs to submit the following documents alongwith the application form

The application for Study Grant will be considered only if it is accompanied by the following documents:-

     a. Passport size photograph.

     b. Ph.D. joining Report along with Order Copy.

     c. Pre – Ph.D./Course work Pass Certificate.

     d. Synopsis of the PhD work.

     e. Community certificate in case of a candidate belonging to BC/SC/ST/ Physically challenged.

      f. Certificate from the Head of the Department/ Institute with regard to Non-Receipt of any Fellowship (ICSSR, UGC, Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship, Nehru Memorial Library and Non-NET etc.). 

    g. Justification letter from the Supervisor with regard to visit of different Universities as   mentioned in the application. 

   h. The Progress Report on the work already done on the Research Proposal duly signed by the Supervisor and the head of the Department/Institution. 

5. Requirements for Award of Grant

5.1. Application completed in all respects shall be evaluated by the Deans Committee headed by the Honorary Director, ICSSR-SRC. Approval/ Rejections of proposals shall be as per the recommendations of the Committee. 

5.2. The decision of the Committee is final with regard to the selection of the libraries in different cities. Once the Order is given, the change in the visit of the Libraries shall not be entertained.

5.3. The applicants are advised to visit different Universities/ Institutions which are equipped with good library resources/ facilities in other States. Apart from other Universities, the applicants are advised to visit ICSSR Research Institutes located across India.

5.4. The applicant may visit one city each time for availing the grant to collect the requisite resources for his/her Ph.D. work. The applicant should not visit cities that are already covered in his/her earlier visits.

5.5. The Study grant should be availed within 3 months from the date of the issue of sanction order. The claims for TA/DA after the stipulated period shall not be entertained.

5.6. Detailed Report on the accomplishment of the purpose of the visit to different Libraries counter signed by the Supervisor.

6. Funding Details

6.1. The applicant is eligible for  Second Class Sleeper Rail fare (No Tatkal) / Govt. RTC Bus fare (Non A/c)  from the place of  the University where the Scholar is registered to the place of visit (where libraries are located) and back (After the submission of the Original Travel Tickets). The Centre will not entertain any Private Bus fares.

6.2. Apart from the travel, the applicant shall be paid an allowance of Rs.800/- per day to meet boarding and lodging expenses.

6.3. Further, an additional amount of Rs.2500/- shall be paid to meet the local conveyance and other miscellaneous expenses.
